Female Nudity

Analysis of PDN's "No More Bad Nudes" by Conor Risch.

1. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT FEMALE NUDITY IN PHOTOGRAPHY?

I think nudity in  photography in general is a very diverse category, and my opinion on whether it is positive or negative primarily depends on the photographer's motives and execution.

2. What do you think about male photographers and female nudity?

I think  male photographers shooting nude females is a very sketchy topic, as the intentions may not be pure. I agree with author conor risch's perspective on the topic, that "...there is nothing artful about leering at women's bodies witha camera while makng excuses about 'the muse' or  'the beauty of the human body'." Although i agree with this, i also believe that not every male photographer shooting female nudes has bad intentions and that it should be taken on each individual circumstance.

3. How do female and male photographer's approaches differ regarding female nudity?

It is much more common for male photographer's to have inappropriate motives when it comes to shooting female nudes than when female photographers shoot female nudes. male photographers may approach photography of female nudity as an opportunity to take advantage of models, whereas female photographers approach photography of female nudity with a perspective that "is more narrative than observational."

4. In this #metoo era, have you seen a change in how the female nude is viewed or portrayed in the media or in your personal life?

The culture surrounding nudity in photography has changed a substantial amount in the last 15-20 years. The market for landscape photography is increasingly high, as the market for nude photography and nude workshops have become progressively lower. I think this market for nude photography has decreased substantially within the last two decades because the public has been exposed to the culture behind males in art and media.
